Your IT Support Team

About Our Team

Providing Computer Support and IT Consulting in New Jersey (NJ)

Our consultants are chosen first for their good communication skills (no geek-speak here!) and friendly client service orientation. Of course, their technical expertise and professionalism are high on our list of critical skills. We work hard to continue their technical and professional development while at IT Radix because we know technology changes rapidly. As technology changes, we need to understand how it will best meet our clients' needs

Our main office is located in the heart of Morris County New Jersey. Our clients include a broad range of organizations from large to small and span a variety of industry sectors. What they have in common: A need for a reliable IT infrastructure and a good strategy for getting the "best bang for their buck" when it comes to technology.

Let me introduce myself:

Cathy Coloff

Cathy Coloff

Managing Member

Cathy has 25+ years of experience in network systems with particular emphasis on local area networking and business applications. With extensive corporate experience at Exxon and Bear Stearns, Cathy works with IT Radix customers to develop their IT best practices without the big corporate price. Read more...

But watch out during March Madness, when the Duke "Blue Devil" in her sneaks out to cheer on her favorite basketball team.

For those of you who don't know Cathy Coloff, working with people to develop, maintain and support information technology in a business has always been her passion. Confucius says, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” And this is exactly what Cathy has done…found her perfect niche where she never tires of bringing the best IT services and products to her valued clients. For Cathy, it's about win-win and partnership...getting to know what her clients need and want and then giving it to them!

Cathy founded IT Radix, LLC, in the fall of 2008, realizing the growing need for small-to-medium sized businesses to stay abreast of ever changing technology. Cathy is the trusted IT advisor to many growing businesses in northern New Jersey, bringing commitment, relationships and even some fun to what some may view as a serious industry. "IT can be a dry topic for many, but I think it's exciting to see how the latest and greatest technology can help a business to prosper and exceed their expectations."

Cathy has worked in the IT industry for 20+ years, working at Exxon, Bear Stearns, IBS Interactive and Veraciti. Cathy has an M.S. in Management of Technology from Stevens Institute of Technology as well as a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Duke University. While Cathy doesn't remember much about electrical engineering, she does remember how to solve problems and look at things from different perspectives. Most importantly—never stop learning!

When not working, Cathy enjoys escaping to Vermont to spend time outdoors with her husband, Doug, and son Alex. When not protecting her two cats, Gizmo and Bear, from little Alex's inquisitive hands, Cathy finds time for a wide variety of interests such as photography, reading, scrapbooking, decorating, biking, sailing and cross country skiing… just to name a few.

Cathy's personal philosophy: “Love what you do!"

Jim Faist

Jim Faist

IT Consultant

Jim has a total of 25+ years of experience as a computer consultant. Owning his own computer consulting business for 11 of these years gives him great insight to the needs of our small business clients. When not working, Jim enjoys cooking, tinkering with his 1983 Yamaha Virago Classic motorcycle and reading. Read more...

At IT Radix, our IT Consultants are always excited about new challenges that advancements in technology throw our way.

Jim Faist is no exception—he's always up for a good challenge and problem solving is his specialty! Jim’s motivation and "take the bull by the horns" approach to problem solving as well as his commitment to our clients is a quality that we admire here at IT Radix. When asked, Jim states that "his top priority is putting our clients 1st and giving 100% of himself to everything he does!"

With 25+ years of experience as a computer consultant, Jim brings with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Back in the early 90’s, Jim was heavily involved with component-level repairs-back in the days when it was more cost-effective to refurbish computer components (e.g., circuit boards, floppy drives, capacitors, power supplies, etc.). Jim is a wiz at what makes computers tick! Plus, the experience Jim has gained from owning his own computer consulting business for 11 years is invaluable and helps him understand the needs of our small business clients.

Jim's problem-solving approach carries over to his personal life as well. He's not one to shy away from even his deepest fear! Here's but one example...Jim has always been deathly afraid of heights. So, what did he do?!?!? He took flying lessons! And, if that wasn’t daring enough, he decided to jump right in, so to speak, and parachute! The most fun Jim's had in his entire life has been parachuting (tandem jumping)! Jim's own words... "The first time I jumped, you couldn't get the smile off my face for a week!" How's that for jumping right in and conquering your fears?!?

When he's not working, Jim enjoys spending time at home cooking and tinkering around with his motorcycle (1983 Yamaha Virago Classic). He's loved riding roller coasters since he was a kid at Great Adventure (although, waiting 2 hours for a ride is a thing of the past). Jim also enjoys reading—primarily U.S. history.

Jim's personal philosophy...emulates Abe Lincoln and the ideals Abe stood for. Jim admires Honest Abe's strength to go against the grain to do the "right" thing. We are the "last best hope!"

"I never had a policy; I have just tried to do my very best each and every day." - Abraham Lincoln

After going to a Kansas concert on their first date back in 1979, attending concerts has become her all-time favorite pastime—everything from rock to punk rock (her favorites are the Ramones, Eric Clapton, George Thorogood, the great B.B. King, just to name a few). The next concert she’s shooting for is Joan Jett. When not following the band, Cheryl enjoys exploring garage sales and antique shops and any store that sells things from the 70’s era…she loves that whole free spirit, easy going, love and peace era. She enjoys spending time with and taking care of elderly folks and is a part-time home health companion. When it comes to sports, she LOVES the Yankees and the NY Rangers. When Cheryl finds time to relax, she enjoys watching her TV soaps and vegging out at home on a rainy day watching old movies.

His goal is to position himself as an expert in networking administration. His favorite thing about IT is that it gives him the opportunity to learn something new every day. John believes that when a team really works together, it makes the workday not so much about work but about collaboration—which is infinitely more productive.

As an IT Consultant, John monitors offsite backups, supports clients with day-to-day issues, and configures workstations. He loves problem solving; and he loves being able to help our clients utilize technology to get the most out of their day. John believes that to best serve our clients, it’s not only important to solve problems, but also to communicate clearly and effectively. He aims to make their experience with the “IT Guy” one of the highlights of their day!

A New Jersey native, John lived the majority of his life in West Milford, where he resides with his family today. When not working, John continues to enjoy expanding his technical knowledge—whether dissecting the theory behind a TCP/IP stream or removing a nasty piece of malware from a friend’s laptop, there’s always something changing with the technology we use every day, and he loves immersing himself in it. John also enjoys traveling the world and helping others! For the past 3 years, John has spent some time in both Haiti and Honduras volunteering his time and construction talents at both a school and an orphanage. An avid reader, he enjoys fiction as well as reading books on philosophy and self-improvement. He also enjoys dabbling in creative writing and poetry, as well as hiking and gaming.

John’s personal philosophy: Everyone is always trying to get a leg up on someone else, and so many people seem to be focused around arbitrary gain. At the end of the day, we all leave this earth so as long as we’re here, we may as well try to be the best people we can be.

Tom Quitt

Tom Quitt

IT Consultant

Tom is the resident Virus Guru here at IT Radix. Truth be known, we have some great virus techs here, but all of them learn from Tom. Read more...

No computers (not even Macs) are impermeable to viruses. Anti-virus software available today is just a piece of the puzzle. It’s not a 100%, clear-cut solution.

Thousands of new viruses are distributed every day, and something is bound to slip through the cracks. And, when they do, viruses aren't easy to remove. They require going into the coding of a computer, and doing some fancy footwork. Tom prides himself on his reverse engineering skills—digging deep into the virus code to determine how it runs and how to effectively remove it.

With a dad as a hardware technician and a mom as a programmer, Tom has literally grown up with computers—programming since middle school and web developing in high school. His expertise is debugging applications and scripting. He’s also played a strong role in the development of our internal processes and procedures.

When not working with computers, Tom enjoys watching movies and hanging out with friends. He is a huge fan of the videogame, StarCraft, a real-time strategy video game based on a plot which is a hybrid of military and science fiction. Tom remains a long-term resident of north Jersey where he resides with his family.

Tom’s personal philosophy: “Have fun and help others.”

“In the seen, there is only the seen,
in the heard, there is only the heard,
in the sensed, there is only the sensed,
in the cognized, there is only the cognized”

—Buddhist quote

The staff at IT Radix enjoys a good challenge. Our COO, Marybeth Smith is no exception. She has managed operations for corporate mergers and reorganizations and led major systems implementations. At IT Radix Marybeth is responsible for a wide-range of activities: operational oversight, business planning, continuous process improvement, managed service agreements, and HR. She is always available to work with clients to resolve specific issues or concerns. As with everyone at IT Radix, her most important goal is to make sure that every client has a quality experience. She excels at getting things done successfully and profitably.

Truly passionate about smooth-running business operations and well-planned projects, Marybeth likes to look ahead for various outcomes. She’s a great planner and has a knack for visualizing potential pitfalls. Of course, not all problems can be foreseen, but Marybeth loves the challenge of fixing the problem and getting everything back on track.

When not working, Marybeth enjoys volunteering as the Cultural Arts Coordinator at her son’s school. Marybeth enjoyed a childhood filled with music and arts—something that she strongly believes sticks with you when you’re exposed to it at an early age.

Fun for Marybeth is all about family and friends—an evening spent laughing is the best antidote to a day’s worth of stress! An avid reader, Marybeth reads everything she can get her hands on—books, newspapers and magazines. She also enjoys traveling and gardening. Marybeth’s favorite place to be is at the beach with her family.

A self-proclaimed “city girl” with roots in NYC and Boston, Marybeth now enjoys life in the Jersey suburbs with her husband and three great kids! You can’t beat the gardening in the Garden State!

Marybeth's personal philosophy: I’m a natural optimist! I believe in the power of karma...if you put good out into the universe, good will come back to you. However, my job requires that I anticipate, prevent and solve problems every day—so, I like to think of myself as an “optimist who carries an umbrella!” I also believe in the power of team. Only with great people (and we have the best here) will you get great results!

Chris Soltys

IT Consultant

Chris came to IT Radix with 18 years of IT experience in a variety of capacities: programmer, help desk, IT Director, and Sr. Network Administrator. He even started his own IT business in 2001. Read more...

His love of chemistry while at William Patterson University quickly turned into a love of computers that he mostly learned on the job and self taught after hours and hours of reading books in the IT field.

As an IT Consultant, Chris likes helping our clients any way he can. He enjoys being on location and interacting personally with our clients face to face. Being familiar with older technology has built a strong foundation, giving him experience in a variety of IT areas. Experience being his own boss enables Chris to be able to look and think about things differently, and he prides himself in being able to understand our clients’ business needs. Our clients know that they are in good hands!

Growing up in Lodi, Chris now resides in Elmwood Park with his wife, Izabela, and two boys, Alexander and Jacob. When not working, he enjoys spending time outdoors whether it’s shooting hoops, riding bikes or going to the park. Since Chris was 7 years old, soccer has always been a big part of his life. He now coaches for both of his boys in the same soccer club that he played in as a boy and is currently the president of this club. He loves to chill out with his Xbox, but now finds himself spending time playing Xbox FIFA soccer with his boys. Chris is an avid reader and a huge Stephen King fan.

Chris's personal philosophy: “Do it right the first time, even if it takes longer!"

It’s better than going back and fixing things. This goes back to building blocks. If you take the time and start with a solid foundation, everything else builds upon this and the end product only becomes stronger.

“Eat that frog!” — Brian Tracy

This is the title of a book about overcoming procrastination by Brian Tracy and centers around a famous quote from Mark Twain… “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” Basically, if you just do the task that you have been dreading, then all tasks after that won’t seem as bad.
